Louis Thayer Hills Memorial Exhibition and Art Sale
Friday, June 5th @ 5:00pm
At the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts - 926 East Center Street
Interested in obtaining art from a Wisconsin-based artist? The Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts will be hosting a memorial exhibition and art sale for Louis Thayer Hills. His work from various periods, and in a variety of styles and media will be displayed and for sale at the Jazz Gallery. A reception will be hosted on Friday, June 5th, from 5-8pm, and the sale will continue on Saturday, June 6th, 12-5pm.
Louis Thayer Hills (1935-2019) was an American artist who made Southeastern Wisconsin his home for the larger part of his career. His passion was painting, printmaking and later experimenting with all kinds of mediums and materials in his work. Louis was a gentleman farmer with a studio on his property near Burlington. He was a prodigious artist who was less concerned with selling during his lifetime, but more interested in creating and expression.
His early works in the 1950’s were in oil and their palette was dark and brooding. As the decades progressed, his palette lightened and his media expanded to include printmaking, drawings, acrylic and some forays into textiles and sculpture. He even collaged various materials such as maps, burlap and other commercial packaging into his later canvases.
Please join us for this art exhibition and sale pop-up event. Art work is priced to sell (larger paintings, works on paper, prints and sketchbooks). 50% of sales goes to support the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts.

Fugue State Milwaukee
Friday, April 3 @ 6:00pm
At the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts - 926 East Center Street
Fugue State, a project of Disassociative Productions, is a traveling multimedia festival of experimental, radical, political, and avant-garde cinema with previous screenings held at the NY Film-Maker's Coop, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, Elastic Arts Foundation (Chicago), and Comfort Station (Chicago). M Woods, multi-disciplinary artist and founder of the festival, created the platform as a direct attack at the gate-kept, corrupted, and cronyistic film festival circuit.
Showcasing work that transgresses formulaic cinema, Fugue State seeks to usurp institutions backed by blood money, conspiratorial networks, and corporate dollars, remaining opposed to the not-for-profit industrial complex while offering a fully independent alternative.
For Fugue State Milwaukee we've compiled some of the most hyper-stimulating shorts from Fugue State.

Jazz Up: Poetry Workshop
Jazz Up: Poetry Workshop
Thursdays May 29th — July 17th, 7PM — 9 PM
Instrumental music can influence mood and feelings, particularly jazz. How can this inform our writing?
May we play around and find out about this magic ourselves. In this series Jazz It Up in collaboration with Jazz Gallery, we will see, or rather hear, how jazz music affects what is produced on the page. Art off of art, ekphrastic in ways. Tune into a sense that often gets neglected as a poet's muse.
What could this sound like? Well, local MKE jazz artists will play a song (or two) live whether improv or created prior. During, poets will write. There will be specific prompts for further guidance.
$125 for all 8 workshops in series or $25 per workshop ($25 for whole workshop series for students, vets, and those in need). Hybrid option available.
