The Chuck LaPaglia Jazz Film/Live Music Series continues on Thursday night January 15, 2026 at 6:30 pm with the screening of "I Called Him Morgan" (2016), an award-winning Swedish documentary directed by Kasper Collin and featuring clips from Lee and Helen Morgan, Wayne Shorter and many others.
IMDb Storyline: "On a snowy night in February 1972, celebrated jazz musician Lee Morgan was shot dead by his common-law wife Helen during a gig at a club in New York City. The murder sent shockwaves through the jazz community, and the memory of the event still haunts those who knew the Morgans. This feature documentary by Swedish filmmaker Kasper Collin is a love letter to two unique personalities and the music that brought them together. A film about love, jazz and America."

This series is dedicated to Chuck LaPaglia, who as owner of the Jazz Gallery, produced spectacular concerts featuring internationally-known artists including Dizzy Gillespie, Betty Carter, Freddy Hubbard, Stan Getz, Max Roach, Jimmy Smith, Sun Ra, Mose Allison, Wynton and Branford Marsalis, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Manty Ellis and many more. Enjoy a great film series and live music in a historic, newly refurbished Milwaukee jazz venue!
Seating is limited, and available on a first-come, first served basis; tickets are not sold for the event, but the suggested donation to the non-profit Jazz Gallery is $15 for the general public and $10 for students.
