The Time is Now

Art, like love, refuses to be constrained. It can uplift, soothe, challenge, educate and entertain. It can also help spark a dialogue on essential issues of the day: Who are we? What do we believe? What do we cherish?

We live in an era of unprecedented attacks on art institutions such as the Smithsonian and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. This is happening within a broader context of the undermining of democratic institutions and constitutional norms, from the due process rights of immigrants, to voting rights, to the militarization of major cities. Attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion, meanwhile, are being used to limit discussions of race, misogyny and gender. At the same time, global issues do not stop at the U.S. border, and reach down into our cities and neighborhoods.

The Jazz Gallery is honored to provide public space for art that speaks to these times.

Participating visual artists include Niki Johnson (Instagram: @Nikijohnsonstudio) Nicolas Lampert (@nicolaslampert), David Najib Kasir (@davidnajibkasir), John Fleissner (@johnfleissner), and Chrystal Denise Gillon.
