Flourish
August 15th-September 12, 2020
Many art students get internships; some change their lives dramatically while in school. This exhibition highlights local and regional emerging artists who lived or worked for a year or more in Milwaukee area elder-care communities. There were participants in the Student Artists in Residence (SAIR) program, which has enriched the lives of art students and their elder partners by fostering a rich and deep exchange across generations, experiences, and time.
Flourish is an exhibition that shows a range of creative works in a variety of media by a selection of the over 30 SAIR alumni artists. Documentation will also show the SAIRs in action at their residency sites. The Student Artist in Residence (SAIR): Innovation in Aging Services program, founded in 2015 by UWM Professor Anne Basting, is designed to give UW-Milwaukee arts students time and space to learn about a community and help it grow and change through art-making.
Artists included: Amanda Check, Andrew Gray, Caila Webber, Christina Theobald, Danielle Hobach, Eleanor Wenker, Ian McGibbon, Jessica Schubkegel, KC Thomas, Mari Marks, Molly Hassler, Natalie Derr, and Sarah Benforado
