Voicehandler (Oakland, CA) + Matt Robidoux (San Francisco, CA) + Nummy + Lucky Bone

Voicehandler (Oakland, CA) + Matt Robidoux (San Francisco, CA) + Nummy + Lucky Bone

Thursday, August 6th @ 7:00pm

At the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts - 926 East Center Street

Voicehandler plays intuitive, incantatory music grounded in the most primitive and somatic instruments -- the voice and percussion -- juxtaposed with contemporary, disembodied electronics. We situate ourselves in our physical and social environment through our music. The performance is loose and exploratory, at various times energetic and meditative. Rivero’s voice embraces noise, with the lines blurred between electronic processing and extended vocal techniques. Heule has a special interest in friction techniques, and embraces limited instrumentation - like a single drum and a single cymbal - as a commitment to exploring the depth of his instruments.

matt robidoux (they/he) is a San Francisco based composer, improviser, and educator interested in sound-gesture causality and the convergence of movement and sound as it relates to free improvisation and accessibility. Their primary instrument is the “corn synth” (Kinetically Operated Randomness Network), a modular system that interprets physical input from two “ears of corn” sculptures cast in aluminum.

Local support from Nummy and Lucky Bone.
