Join us on Fridays at 3:00 pm on Riverwest Radio 104.1 during the Stay at Home Order.

On the fifth episode of Remote Resonance, Milwaukee-based composer/performer/improviser Dustin Boyer joins series host Eli Smith live on-air for a performance and interview. The two discuss the musical and conceptual ideas behind Boyer’s piece ‘Nonexistence’, his interest in electronic/sample-based music, and the projects he pursues outside of academia.

The first set of the performance portion of the show features Boyer performing ‘Nonexistence’, a gorgeous and shimmering 25-minute piece that blends slowly shifting and densely layered synth tones with spoken word samples from the likes of Malcolm X, Mitski, and Julius Eastman. The second set of the performance sees Boyer and Eli collaborating on an improvised set of music, conjuring swirling masses and glitches of sounds from electronic samples, electric guitar, and objects.

Each episode features musician’s performances and interviews. Styles vary widely, from experimental and improvised music, to hip-hop, to jazz and more.  Remote Resonance is a production of Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts in conjunction with Riverwest Radio, and is an effort by the venue to continue its programming in the wake of COVID-19 forcing the venue to temporarily close.
