Remote Resonance: Armillaria

Join us on Fridays at 3:00 pm on Riverwest Radio 104.1 during the Stay at Home Order.

In the first episode of Remote Resonance, Armillaria (Lonnie Martin and series host Eli Smith) plays two sets of freely improvised music, and discusses their experiences playing improvised music together. Dissonant and brooding clouds of sound slowly give way to playful experiments with objects found at thrift stores, exploring a distinctive approach to music-making that is spontaneous, playful, and cathartic. The duo discuss the origins of their project (banging on glasses and jars at Lonnie’s home after breakfast one morning), the fruitful aspects of playing improvised music, and specific sounds and moments during their on-air performance that they found exciting.

Each episode features musician’s performances and interviews. Styles vary widely, from experimental and improvised music, to hip-hop, to jazz and more.  Remote Resonance is a production of Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts in conjunction with Riverwest Radio, and is an effort by the venue to continue its programming in the wake of COVID-19 forcing the venue to temporarily close.
