Practice What You Preach: Milwaukee Artists Who Teach

While the saying “Practice what you preach” has often had biblical associations, it actually dates back two centuries before that to a Roman playwright. That saying, seems a very timeless and appropriate title for a show of Milwaukee K12 art teachers who are actively working artists.

Many talented studio artists find themselves drawn to teaching as a profession, sharing their passion and skills with young people and mentoring potential while also maintaining their own creative practice as artists. Milwaukee has many artists who are working with youth in K12 public school settings and often burning the candle at both ends  to make and exhibit works of their own to keep that flame alive for themselves, their students and their community. This exhibition celebrates a small sampling of nine K12 MPS art teachers who help to shape and support hundreds of students each year as they also remain important creative voices  in Milwaukee and beyond.

Exhibiting artists:

  • Ian McGibbon

  • Jeanette Arellano

  • Dustin Beres

  • Ben Tyjeski

  • Shannon Molter

  • Kristelle Ulrich

  • Maurice Marshall

  • Paige Bauschke
