Gían Pérez + FREE COUNTRY + tampertampe + Mommy
At the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts - 926 East Center Street
Gían Pérez is an multi-disciplinary artist, improviser, and composer born and raised in Puerto Rico, based in Brooklyn, NY, whose work focuses on the dissection and subversion of form. Perez has worked with artists like Brandon Seabrook, Zoh Amba, Marc Edwards, Brandon Lopez, among others. Recently, he has played at venues including The Stone, Knitting Factory, Joe's Pub, Nublu, Downtown Music Gallery, Rhizome DC, and more. By extending the guitar to its extremes as a physical material, Perez denatures the electric guitar beyond its ascribed historical identity, as a means of envisioning a language that was never conquered and had instead been left to govern itself. His debut solo guitar album, bambú, is available on zOaR Records via Bandcamp or CD.
