Description of music project: Brooklyn based saxophonist Jim Piela brings a unique blend of classic jazz and contemporary influences to his music. His latest album, “It Comes with the Territory,” showcases innovative improvisational elements paired deep grooves and singing melodies. With his engaging mix of technical musical precision and on-stage charisma, Jim makes every performance entertaining and accessible. He’s recorded three full length albums under his own name, alongside releases with his funk/groove project, Planetary People. In addition to his performance work, Piela is also involved in education, sharing his passion for music with students and aspiring musicians. His performance projects combined with his ever-growing collection of educational material highlight not only his artistry but his commitment to nurturing the next generation of musicians.
Jim is joined at the Jazz Gallery by his brother trumpeter and Glen Miller featured soloist Alex Piela, Chicago-based drummer and leader of the Blue Shift Big Band Joel Baer, and award winning bassist, composer and Shifting Paradigm recording artist John Christensen.
