Ipek Eginli/James McKain/Evan Palmer/Weasel Walter + Buttars/Ollman/Smith

Thursday, January 8th @ 8:00pm

At the Jazz Gallery Center for the Arts - 926 East Center Street

Ipek Eginli is a Turkish-American experimental sound artist and pianist/improviser whose work involves electroacoustic free improvisation on piano, voice, modular synthesizers, and no-input mixing boards. Eginli’s sound explorations and performances are often described as adventurous, daring, playful, and vibrant, effortlessly shifting between organic and mechanical sounds to evoke a broad range of emotions, from tender and soft to dark and explosive.

James McKain is a saxophonist and library employee from Brooklyn, New York. He is interested in the notion of deconstructing inheritances of the mediums that he works in (broadly speaking: music). This is a contradiction: a passive activity.

Evan Palmer (they/them) is a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator based in Brooklyn. They specialize in improvised music and jazz. Raised in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, Palmer moved to Boston in 2018 to attend Berklee College of Music, where they studied with John Lockwood, Francisco Mela, Bob Gullotti, and Linda May Han Oh. They graduated in 2022 with a Bachelor of Music in Bass Performance.

Weasel Walter (first name, last name) is a Brooklyn, New York based multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser best known for leading the seminal punk-jazz/no-wave/brutal-prog band The Flying Luttenbachers between 1991 and 2007 on 16 full-length releases.Seamlessly uniting the intensity and abstraction of improvised music with the nihilist aesthetics of extreme rock forms, Walter is committed to violent momentum, idiomatic unpredictability and rapid articulation.
